SAN DIEGO — A contingent of more than 300 ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties members, staff, friends and family will proudly march in Saturday’s San Diego Pride Parade.
Since the 1930s, the ACLU has been integrally involved in the fight for LGBTQ rights in San Diego in the areas of job discrimination, public accommodation, healthcare, parenting, marriage equality, Internet free speech, and school clubs. We are proud not only of our victories in the courtroom, but also in the legislature and in local communities.
This year, San Diego’s LGBT Pride Festival celebrates its 43rd anniversary with the theme “Allied in Action: United for Justice.” Starting with a small potluck and an informal parade in June, 1974, the Pride Celebration is now one of the largest in the United States attracting 200,000 spectators to the parade and over 40,000 to the weekend festival.
