Contract Position Field Canvassers
The American Civil Liberties Union of San Diego and Imperial Counties (ACLU-SDIC) seeks to contract with motivated and outgoing individuals to join our voter engagement program as field canvassers. This will be a non-partisan effort to engage ACLU members around the importance of the district attorney and ACLU’s Smart Justice platform. Field canvassers will knock on doors and talk over the phone with voters and ACLU members throughout San Diego County.
District attorneys (DA) have tremendous power to impact the lives of millions of people, their families, and entire communities, but most people do not know their local DA or what they do. They decide whether to press charges, to seek jail time or to provide an opportunity to rebuild a person’s life by referring to a diversion program.
This is a part-time, temporary contract position that runs through June 5th, 2018. Field canvassers will work 10-15 hours per week, during evenings and weekends under the direction of an ACLU Organizer. Individuals impacted by the criminal justice system, or formerly – incarcerated individuals are encouraged to apply.

Job duties and responsibilities:
- Educate and engage voters through door-to-door canvassing and phone banking
- Build relationships with ACLU members and potential voters
- Provide information on voter registration, polling locations, and election information
- Effective use of technology and other tools to accurately track and record data after each shift
- Participate and complete any required training
- Ability to learn and discuss the work and mission of the ACLU and the issues around the criminal justice system and the District Attorney race
Qualifications:
- Must be over 18 years old
- Comfortable speaking with strangers and with people from different racial, ethnic, economic, and social backgrounds
- Willing and able to walk for long periods of time in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to work with others in a team
- Licensed and insured drivers with access to a vehicle are desired, but not require
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, with weekend and evening shifts
