No one should have to face the U.S. government in court without an attorney when their liberty is at stake.

Despite the risks involved with immigration court proceedings, including:

  • Deportation;
  • Permanent separation from their families and communities; and
  • Sometimes life-threatening danger in their countries of origin…

…People who can’t afford an attorney are not guaranteed legal representation by the U.S. government. Even while the government is represented by a qualified attorney during these proceedings. This is fundamentally unfair.

WE THE PEOPLE must demand that our local government create an immigrant legal defense program to uphold their due process rights and to add fairness and equity to our unjust immigration system.
